The Big Short (2015 US Movie)

昨夜観たが期待以上の面白さ。今夜も観たくなっている。こんな風に「また観たい」という気持ちが、私にとっての映画の良し悪しの判断基準。特に、英語字幕で観ているので、複数回観ることで新たな発見も多い。

ようやく日本でも公開された。とはいえ、あいかわらず大概ひどい邦題で失笑するしかない。"The Martian" の邦題同様に最悪だ。予想は「ビッグ・ショート」（本来は the は必要だけど...）だった。ところで money short て言葉はあるのかな？short of money の意味にならないか？ やっぱり "The Martian" 同様に原作本の売上に寄与したくないから、あえて変えてるとしか思えない。おまけに「華麗なる...」だって。陳腐な表現だし、そもそもこの映画のメッセージに反している。やはり、邦題考える連中は映画を見ていない or 理解していないようだ（泣）

先日の Academy 賞では Best Adapted Screenplay を受賞、その受賞に納得する映像化に成功している。面倒な経済の話を、映像だからこそできる手法満載で見事に一級の娯楽映画にしている。

日本語訳の原書を読んでいたので、原作との違いも楽しみにながら鑑賞した。一度目の今回の直感的なお気に入りは、Brad Pitt の「ひいた演技」。この映画のラスベガスの場面での「説教」は、原作が描く大きな主張の一つだと思う。原作の実在の人物とはかなり変えている印象だが、その存在感はさすがの Brad Pitt だ。どこか Academy 賞の Best Actor が似合わない Brad Pitt だが、近い将来「ぶっちぎりの演技」で受賞して欲しい。

若干のネタバレだが、もうひとつ「拍手」したのは、エンドロールの曲 Led Zeppelin の  When The Levee Breaks  、直訳すると「堤防決壊の時」。まさにこの映画が描いたシーンなのだ。

「教えてクマさん：量的金融緩和政策」に書いたように、今朝 Freakonomics Radio の Ben Bernanke Gives Himself a Grade を聞いた。この映画が描く時期の FRB 議長が Ben Bernanke だったのだ。

「FRB は何してた？」と、原作を読みながら思ったものだが、Ben Bernanke とのインタビューを聞きながら、少し考えは変わった。Freakonomics Radio のホストの以下の引用は印象的だ。

We’ll never know what would have happened if the Fed and Treasury didn’t do what they did. But I will say this: it’s always easier to shout about the things that have gone wrong than to appreciate what hasn’t gone wrong. I’ve been thinking about this a lot lately after the terrorist attacks in Paris and elsewhere. Every attack produces the predictable cycle of shock and then the recrimination and finger-pointing – sometimes as much at law enforcement and intelligence and military officials as at the perpetrators. But what about when those same officials prevent a terrorist attack? Our appreciation is generally muted and short-lived. We forget about the catastrophe that was a hair’s breadth from happening. And we move on. Kind of like we’ve moved on from the financial crisis that Ben Bernanke helped steer us through.

強調した部分の通りなのだ。そうやって 次の経済恐慌 はやってくるのだろう。経済て、人間の営みや心理を見事に描くものという気がする。
