Dylan Deserves the Nobel Prize：違うドアを違う方法で開ける

昨夜は深夜に目覚めて、受賞のことを知った。「受賞おめでとう」というメールが私に来たが、私が受賞したわけではないのに、妙に嬉しくもなった。今夜は一人で「Bob Dylan 祭り」だな。

幾つかの関連記事を読んで「作家じゃないのに文学賞なのか？」の疑問もあるようだが、やはり「文学賞で良い」のだ。次は、Rolling Stone 誌の Why Bob Dylan Deserves His Nobel Prize「なぜ Bob Dylan はノーベル賞に値するのか」から。

According to the Swedish Academy, Dylan won "for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition"

同感だ。

彼女が Dylan 受賞を発表した the Swedish Academy の人だが、この記事の動画でも素晴らしいコメントをしてる。特に Delta Blues のことに触れた瞬間は嬉しくなった。「フォークの神様」とかいう評価なんかじゃない、もっと深い多面的に評価されたことが伺える。

音楽が、文学が、歴史が、社会情勢が...、もう色んなことが Bob Dylan の音楽には盛り込まれているんだよ。

去年 8 月に書いた投稿「50年前の出来事：When Dylan Went Electric」、そこから再び引用する。

Beyond the music, Dylan's performance that night also marked a turn in American culture. 

"Before 1965 was really a different world, and it's the '60s of the Civil Rights Movement, and of folk music and of joining arms across the generations and across the races. And after 1965 it's the world of rock…I'm not saying that Dylan created that change, but I do think that the confrontation at Newport happened because it was symbolic of that much larger confrontation, and has been remembered because it really is sort of the moment of rupture where the new '60s emerged." 

Dylan が変化を作ったわけではないが...、より大きな衝突や対立の象徴であった。1965年以前は全くの別世界だった、60年代の米国の公民権運動やフォークソング、世代と人種を超えた軍隊への入隊、そして1965年以降はロックの世界へ...。

Dylan の音楽にも、ノーベル賞の選考基準にも、その他もろもろにだって、いくらでもケチが付けられる。定量的に測れないことに、順位付けは難しいのだ。時代背景もある。

この Rolling Stone 誌の記事の最後からの引用。

"These songs didn't come out of thin air," Dylan said last year in his instant-classic MusiCares speech, explaining his roots in the folk, blues and country tradition. "All these songs are connected. Don't be fooled. I just opened up a different door in a different kind of way." It's a door we've all been walking through ever since. So here's to everything Dylan's built over the past 60 years. And here's to his next 60 years. 

「これらの音楽は、どこからともなくやってきたんじゃない」と去年の instant-classic MusiCares speech, での Dylan の発言、彼の音楽のルーツがフォーク、ブルーズ、伝えられてきたカントリーソングにあると説明しながら。「すべての音楽は繋がっている。騙されちゃいけない。私は単に違うドアを違うやり方で開けただけ」。ドアは、その後で我々が通ったものなのだ。ここにあるのは、Dylan が 60 年かけて築きあげてきたもの。そして、彼の次の 60 年がある。

Dylan 自身が、本人がやってきたことは最も分かっている。それを評価するのは他人であって Dylan ではない。

既に「次の 60 年」は、彼の影響なしではありえない。そして誰かが

違うドアを違う方法で開ける

その継続なのだ。

だからこそ、未来の音楽や文学、そして芸術が楽しみになる。
